Franz Josef Glacier Helicopter Hike Tour 

For your Tour Franz Josef Hike helicopter adventure, we recommend bringing the following:

• Warm upper-body clothing (preferably 3-4 layers)
• Leggings or light trousers (please avoid jeans)
• Sunglasses and sunscreen
• Waterproof jacket (provided if you don’t have one)
• Comfortable shoes

There is no need to concern yourself with anything else. Please note that meals and drinks are not included in the tour.

Please check in 15 minutes before your flight’s departure.

Your flight is dependent on favourable weather conditions; if canceled due to poor weather, you will have the option to reschedule for an alternative date or receive a full refund.

We recommend booking your flights early in your trip and allowing for flexibility due to potential weather changes. We don’t want you to miss out.

Flights, landings, and routes may vary due to weather and the pilot’s discretion. Flight times are approximate and include your landing. Minimum passenger numbers apply for flights, and bookings will be coordinated to meet these requirements whenever possible.

Prices include concession fees that contribute toward conservation and sustainability management.

Children wishing to join our Heli Hikes need to be at least 10 years old, weigh at least 35kg, and be at least 137cm tall due to safety ratings with our harnesses. The weight limit is 115kg.

If you are traveling with a child during late May to early September, they unfortunately cannot participate in our first morning departures due to higher risk levels in ice conditions during this season. To give them the best chance of participation, we recommend booking trips from 11AM onwards. Most of our afternoon bookings are currently under demand, so please contact our friendly team if this option is not available on your preferred booking day at 0800 807 767.

Clients over 115kg and/or pregnant will not be able to participate.

Drones, iPads, selfie sticks, and bags are not allowed on board for safety reasons.

All decisions regarding guest participation in the Franz Josef Heli Hike are at the discretion of Senior Guides.

This tour is classified as an adventure activity and carries a degree of risk; therefore, we cannot absolutely guarantee your safety. The Franz Josef Glacier is an unstable geological feature that presents certain hazards, including, but not limited to, avalanche, rockfall, ice fall, heavy rainfall, cold exposure, height, flooding, uneven terrain, slips, trips, and falls, and sun exposure. We cannot anticipate or eliminate all risks, so we take a balanced and conservative approach to safety management. Agreeing to participate is your personal decision, acknowledging that there are environmental and external elements outside our control that may cause harm.

Changes can be made up to 48 hours before your pre-booked tour time, subject to availability.

If your preferred tour time or date is not available and you would like to cancel your booking, our cancellation policy applies.

If you change your mind or need to cancel for any other reason, a cancellation fee will apply according to VANZ Travel’s terms and conditions available on our website.

Cancellations made less than 48 hours before the tour date are non-refundable.
