Know Before You Go

What should I bring?

For your cruise from Port Douglas we recommend bringing:

  • Towel
  • Swimsuit
  • Sunscreen
  • Hat and sunglasses
  • Smartphone/Camera at your own risk
  • Water bottle
  • Cash or credit card for any extras on board

What is NOT included?

Transport from your accommodation is not provided, so you will need to make your own way to Crystalbrook Marina.

Introductory diving is available for $99 per person if pre-booked; however, if booked on the day of travel, the price increases to $119.

Soft drinks, snacks, beer, wine, and cider are also not included and can be purchased individually on board.

What else should I know before I go?

Calypso takes about 90 minutes to reach the outer Great Barrier Reef. The vessel cruises comfortably at 18–20 knots when traveling to Opal Reef and approximately 22 knots when heading to Agincourt Reef.

Rain does not impact the quality of the reef, and our tours operate rain or shine. We do not cancel trips due to wet weather, so you can enjoy the reef no matter the forecast.

A cold buffet lunch is provided on board, offering a selection of meats, salads, Mediterranean vegetables, breads, and condiments. Pregnant guests will find plenty of options even without consuming cold meats.

The minimum age for diving is 12 years, and anyone under 18 must have permission from a parent or guardian. Guests over the age of 70 must provide a doctor’s clearance before diving. All scuba diving is subject to successful completion of an onboard medical questionnaire. If you answer “YES” to any questions or are unsure, we recommend consulting a Queensland doctor prior to participating in scuba diving. The medical questionnaire can be downloaded here.

Before starting your scuba diving adventure in Queensland, please be aware of specific medical requirements unique to the region. Certain conditions, such as asthma, epilepsy, high blood pressure, or specific medications, may disqualify individuals from diving. A dive medical obtained outside Queensland might not meet the local standards, which could prevent you from diving. For detailed information on Queensland’s diving code of conduct, refer to the Work Safe website.

Ensure a safe interval before flying: allow at least 12 hours after a single dive and 24 hours after multiple dives. Certified divers must present their certification cards.

If you’re prone to seasickness, it’s a good idea to take preventive medication before departure. Our stable catamaran offers smoother sailing compared to monohulls, and we also provide seasickness tablets on board. Remember, these are preventive and should be taken just before departure.

Most dietary requirements, including coeliac, vegan, lactose intolerance, and other allergies, can be accommodated. Please contact us via phone or email at least 24 hours before your departure to let us know your preferences. Vegetarian options are readily available, and all meats are served in separate containers for convenience. If you have any doubts, feel free to call us at 07 4222 7454.

We look forward to welcoming you aboard and hope this information helps you prepare for an incredible diving or snorkeling cruise from Port Douglas!
