For your adventure, we recommend bringing the following items:

  • Summer Months: Hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen.
  • Winter Months: Beanie or hat, gloves, jacket, and warm clothing.
  • Year-Round: Waterproof layers and enclosed shoes.
  • Cameras: Only hands-free cameras are allowed while the boat is in motion. Personal cameras are permitted if they are safely stored during the ride. (Read more in the “What Else Should I Know Before I Go” section.)

Ensure you are prepared for the conditions to fully enjoy your Shotover Jet boat experience.

What is NOT included?

Photos and Videos: While photos and video highlights can be viewed immediately after your trip, they are not included in the tour price. You can purchase these at our kiosk in-store or through our online portal.

What should I know before I go?

We recommend booking in advance regardless of the season, but it’s especially important during peak times to prevent any unnecessary delays or disappointment.

Complimentary shuttle transfers leave from ‘The Station’ Information Centre, located at the intersection of Shotover and Camp Streets in downtown Queenstown, every 15 minutes. Guests should be inside The Station Information Building 45 minutes before the scheduled boat departure time. The Station Building is situated at the corner of Camp & Shotover Streets, Queenstown.

Driving to Shotover Jet is also an option, with ample public parking available. Please arrive at the river base 30 minutes before your trip begins. The Shotover Jet River Base is conveniently located 7km from central Queenstown. Head up Shotover Street (with Lake Wakatipu behind you) and continue onto Gorge Road, moving towards Arthurs Point and Coronet Peak. Proceed until you reach the large one-lane Edith Cavell Bridge. Cross the bridge, and you will find the Shotover Jet entry immediately on your left.

Children between the ages of 5 and 15 can participate, and we also accommodate infants aged 3 to 4, provided they meet the minimum height requirement of 1 meter. Shotover Jet reserves the right to extend the height requirement to 1.2 meters depending on the weather and river conditions. Children aged 10-15 can travel alone if a parent or guardian is present at the site, while younger children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian aged 16 or older.

For hands-free cameras, the acceptable method is using a forehead mount strap or a clip that attaches the camera to a hat. This setup does not obstruct the people beside or behind you. Allowed cameras include the GoPro, Sony Action Cam, and Insta 360 GO. Chest straps are prohibited due to the unsuitable low perspective and past issues with customers standing up in the boats for a better view. Similarly, selfie sticks, wrist strap cameras, and comparable devices are not allowed.

We do not advise pregnant individuals to ride on the jet boat.

Although there is no weight limit, you must be able to fit into one of our life jackets to participate. Larger sizes are available to accommodate all guests.

What is the cancellation policy?

If the tour is cancelled due to adverse weather or for any other reason by Tour Operator, a full refund will be given.

If you change your mind or need to cancel for any other reason, a cancellation fee will apply according to VANZ Travel’s terms and conditions available on our website.

Cancellations made less than 48 hours before the tour date are non-refundable.

Please note that the card fee is also non-refundable.
